TRIPS: CCAL organizes a series of trips -- usually by chartered bus -- to places and events outside the Oneonta area. These include museums, historic sites, and cultural performances. Trips have been made to Syracuse, Utica, Albany, the Hudson Valley, and even New York City and Boston. The cost varies, depending on the distance, on prepaid admissions costs to the places visited, and on whether meals are included. All members receive written notices of these trips well in advance, inviting them to register. Payment must usually be made at the time of registration.
From time to time, CCAL makes its trips -- to the extent that we have excess bus capacity -- available to other members of the Community.
Trips usually begin and end at the Oneonta Bus Lines terminal in Oneonta, though there may sometimes be pickups available at sites in our area through which the bus will pass. Most trips are "all-day" -- beginning early in the morning and ending fairly late in the evening.
SOCIAL EVENTS: CCAL organizes a series of Social Events for its members. A charge is made to cover costs, and members are invited by letter to sign up in advance. Members are invited to bring guests, especially people who might be interested in membership.
- SPRING TEA -- usually in March. The new SUMMER/FALL catalog of courses is distributed, with brief oral presentations about each course by or on behalf of the facilitator. Refreshments are served. (No charge)
- ANNUAL LUNCH -- usually in May. Certificates are awarded to Facilitators who have given CCAL courses the previous year, and to others who have contributed to the work of CCAL. There is usually a short entertainment program, and sometimes exhibits of craft items produced in CCAL courses. (Small charge for food)
- ANNUAL PICNIC -- usually in August -- at the Hartwick College Ecological Research Site at Pine Lake in East Davenport. Lunch is provided. (No charge)
- ANNUAL MEETING -- usually in October. The new WINTER/SPRING catalog of courses is distributed, with brief oral presentations about each course by or on behalf of the facilitator. Refreshments are served. A brief formal Annual Meeting to conduct CCAL business, elect new officers, etc. is held in conjunction with the Course Presentations. Members are invited to bring guests to this annual occasion, to introduce them to the wealth of CCAL's offerings. (No charge)
- From time to time other special events may be scheduled, to which all members are invited.
