Magnesium atoms are incorporated in chlorophyll molecule in all green plants, without it photosynthesis will not occur. Magnesium stimulates the uptake of phosphorus and help in starch translocation. It is also essential in the formation of fats and oils in plants. Deficiency could be easily rectified by the application of pulverized limestone or other artificial fertilizers.
