Conclusions: Carbon Dioxide
New Island water samples also had a broad range of results for carbon dioxide. As I expected, the Susquehanna River samples tested low (less then ten ppm) in carbon dioxide. The River water has a high velocity with turbulent flow and there is not the organic decay processes that the wetland samples have. The wetland samples varied in concentration but tended to be several times higher in concentration. There was also a variation from wetland to wetland. To explain this I looked at the sizes of the water bodies sampled. As you can see in the pictures, the sites that tested the highest in carbon dioxide tended to be the smallest. This would concentrate the amount of microbes using the dissolved oxygen and would result in a higher amount of carbon dioxide present.
