Conclusions: Nitrates

The levels of nitrates in the waters of New Island all tested below the minimum value used in the test, although there was detectable evidence of nitrates in the water.  This is likely a result of the time of year the sample was taken, as well as the drought conditions resulting in little runoff.  I would have thought that there would have been higher (or at least measurable) levels of nitrates in the samples because of the fact that wetlands tend to be places where nitrogen concentrates.  Although the levels are lower than what I expected to find, these low concentrations are safe and would show that there is no evidence of excess nutrient contamination.
