Application Process

  1. Pre-Testing Information:

HEP Oneonta uses an exam called the TEST OF ADULT BASIC EDUCATION, also know as the TABE. This tool is used for for all participants who wish to study and take the GED exam, which is offered in both English and Spanish.

The academic ability of a potential HEP participant must be assessed prior to acceptance into the HEP Oneonta. Potential participants must complete the TABE and must have the academic ability of eighth grade or higher in order to be considered for the program. There are two exams from which to choose; English or Spanish.

After a potential participant completes the TABE, it will be scored and the academic eligibility will be determined. If the applicant scores at least an 8.5 on the English TABE or a 12.9 on the Spanish TABE, the participant may be accepted to HEP Oneonta and the application process can continue.

Testing can be arranged by calling HEP Oneonta, toll free at 1-866-598-2760.

  2. Each applicant must also complete a HEP Oneonta application before he/she will be considered. Applications can be downloaded by clicking here. If you prefer to have an application mailed to you, please call us, toll-free at 1-866-598-2760.

  3. For all applicants who are 17 or 18 years of age, a New York State Verification Form (Attachment-B) must be completed by the Guidance Counselor from the applicant's last school attended.
