Student Success Guidelines

During the time you are enrolled in the program, you will receive academic preparation for your General Education Development diploma (GED). The entire HEP staff firmly believe that your GED is only the beginning. We are committed to working with you! We will help you achieve your goals, but always remember: the first and foremost important commitment must come from YOU and we are confident that you will meet the challenge!

Below is a list of guidelines that will enable you to be successful in the HEP program.
  1. Attendance to class, life skills, and/or college or group activities organized by the staff is mandatory. The only exception will be for illness in which case you MUST notify a staff member immediately and the staff member will evaluate your condition and determine whether or not you may be excused from the class or activity.

  2. You must be prepared with completed homework assignments and on-time for class and all other program activities.

  3. Respect and good manners must be shown at all times; to all staff members, classmates and any other person(s) you have contact with while you are in the program. Rude or disruptive behavior and/or the use of inappropriate or obscene language will not be allowed.

  4. A positive attitude and atmosphere is necessary for you to be successful. If you are feeling poorly about a situation, please talk to a staff member immediately in order to resolve the situation.

  5. Room assignments are made on the first day you arrive to the program. Maintenance of the assigned room is your responsibility. Any expenses due to damages are the responsibility of the student who caused the damages.

  6. The Counselor must be notified when you have a visitor from outside the campus.

  7. For your safety, when you leave the campus for any reason, you must sign out with the Counselor or Residence Assistant. You must notify the Counselor or Residence Assistant when you leave, where you are going, and approximately when you will be returning. When you return to campus you must sign in with the Counselor or Residence Assistant.

  8. Curfew times have been established for your safety: Monday-Thursday and Sunday nights you must be in your assigned room by 11:00 PM. Friday and Saturday nights you must be back on campus by 11:00 PM and in your assigned room by 1:00 AM.

  9. If you are going to leave the program for a weekend you must use the procedures for sign out. You cannot leave the program before 3:00 PM on Friday and you must return to the program by 11:00 PM on Sunday night.

  10. The use of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited both on campus and off campus.

  11. Fighting, physical abuse, or threatening to harm any staff members, classmates or any other person(s) is strictly prohibited.
