Dear Mother
To day being Sunday I have been thinking that it would do no harm to let
you know that you have got a boy down here at work for Uncle Sam. I have
been here a year and have got two years more to stay and I have not had but
one letter from you this month that was dated the Seventh. I hope you have
not forgotten to write entirely. Col Berdan has got back to the rgt again
and we have had inspections and drills every day for the last week and
another inspection this morning so you see they keep us bussy all the time.
We had Christhmas dinner here Thursday but it was rather dull. Some of the
regiments got evergreen and trimmed up the camps so they looked quite
pretty but thats all there was to it. I did not hang up my stocking and so
of course I did not get anything in it. We have had beautiful weather for
the last two weeks with the exception of one or two days it has been nearly
as warm as it is in May up North. I presume we shall get enough rain by and
by to make up for it all. I sent you twenty five dollars by mail last
Monday. I hope you have got it all right by this time. My head aches to
hard for me to write to day so I will wish you a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year and not write any more to day.
Your Aff Son
