April 5th 1863 Dear Mother I received your letter yesterday also the commission for which I am very much obliged. I had given up all hopes of getting it at all and was quite hapily disappointed when it came. It will probably take me three or four days to get my discharge and other papers. I shall probably not get home before the first of next week. I shall get my pay in Washington also leave of absence if I get one at all. The wind has been blowing a perfect gale here for the last four days, and last night the snow fell about three inches deep rather cold here for the time of year. We are to have a grand time here Tuesday. I must stay and see that anyway. Cant write any more at present. Will tell you the rest when I get home. Your Affectionate Son Cyrus J Hardaway |
