Dear Mother

I received your kind letter the other day and it did me good for I had not had one in some time. The papers that I sent to the Adjutant Genl a week ago came back this morning disapproved by Genl. Sickels. I suppose he was mad becaus they had been there once or twice before and fer that reason would not approve them. I believe he is as much of a scoundrell as every he was. I am so mad when I think of it that I hardly know what to do. I have written to Foote and Col Smith this morning and shall have to wait now untill I can hear from them. I have almost wished a good many times that you never had done any thing for me and then I should have been perfectly Contented and never had any trouble about it at all. But I suppose it is all right so I will say no more about it. It will probably take Six weeks to hear from New Orleans so I shall have to wait and do the best I can. You are mistaken if you suppose that I am drawing Lieutenants pay. I do not draw Lieutenants pay untill I am discharged and mustered in as a Lieutenant. But by keeping me here they can knock me out of two months pay. They are not obliged to discharge me untill I can produce the necessary evidence. There has been no move made here yet. Cant tell when there will be. I am so mad that I cant write any more now.
