Dear Mother

I will try and write a little just to let you know that we are all sound so far. The army is all back in their old camps again. When I wrote to you last I had some fears that we should not be successful and it has turned out just as I supposed. The general oppinion is here that we shall have to travel towards Washington pretty soon to head off Stonewall Jackson. It is rumored that he has started that way. The best thing that they can do is to let him take it and then they can go on and do up the business in a short time. Our regiment did nobly in the last battle. They have won a name that will not be forgotten soon. There has been a good deal of humbug about them, but no more humbug now. It is the genuine article. I will not send any mony home yet awhile. I think it about as safe here as it would be going through the mail twice. I shall probably hear from Foote in a short time. Our Orderly Sergt has gone to the hospital sick so I have to do all the business now. I cant write any more at present

Your Affectionate Son Cyrus J Hardaway
