Camp Near Falmouth Va June 7th 1863 Dear Mother I received your letter of the 27th last Thursday it was the best I have had in a long time and did me a great deal of good. We are under marching orders again and have been ready three or four days. There has been considerable artillery firing for the last three days but I cant find out what it is for. The 6th army Corps is all across the river just below Fredericksburg and have been there a day or two. I got a letter from Harrington to day he tells me that Jabe Beardslee is drowned. We have had no rain here yet and the dust is flying so that I can hardly see. We received two months pay to day I shall not send it home yet awhile. I think it is just as safe here as it would be going over the road twice There is no more to write at present I hope I shall be able to fill out a whole sheet one of these days. I get all of the papers that you send and hope you will send more Your Affectionate Son CJ Hardaway I have just written to Foote again to day. |
