Snickers Gap Va July 19th 1863
Once more back in Virginia. They say that old Virginia never tires and I
guess she never will. When I began this letter I supposed that we should
stay in Maryland a few days, but we had to start before I could finish
it. We began crossing at Harpers Ferry just at dark on the 17th. Our
Corps is in the advance as usual. We have traveled over the same route
that we came on last fall. Have not found the enemy in any force yet.
Have seen some cavalry but a good ways off. I have not had a letter in a
long time. The last one was dated about the middle of June. The
Newspapers are talking pretty large about our victories. I hope it is
all true. It is getting so dark that I can't see to write very well. I
will write oftener after this.
